Kia Optima DL3: Brake System / Brake Pad

Disconnect the (-) battery terminal.

Remove the front wheel and tire.

(Refer to Suspension System - "Wheel")

Loosen the guide rod bolt and then pivot the caliper body (A) up out of the way.

Remove the brake pad (A).

Remove the pad retainer (A).

• When installing, use a new one return spring (A), pad retainer (B), inner shim (C). • Note the direction when replacing the pad retainer and inner pad core.

Release the parking brake.

Before removing the rear caliper, perform “Brake Pad Replacement Mode” using the KDS.

Select C2 (Release) on the screen below.

Disconnect the (-) battery terminal.

Remove the rear wheel and tire.

Disconnect the EPB actuator connector (A).

Loosen the guide rod bolt and then pivot the caliper body (A) up out of the way.

Remove the brake pad (A).

Remove the pad retainer (A).

When installing, use a new one return spring (A), pad retainer (B), inner shim (C).

Release the parking brake.

Disconnect the (-) battery terminal.

Remove the rear wheel and tire.

(Refer to Suspension System - "Wheel")

Disconnect the parking cable (A) after remove the parking brake cable fixing clip.

Loosen the guide rod bolt and then pivot the caliper body (A) up out of the way.

Remove the brake pad (A).

Remove the pad retainer (A).

When installing, use a new one return spring (A), pad retainer (B), inner shim (C).

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Use a SST (09581-11000) when installing the brake caliper assembly.

• Carefully press it to avoid damaging the piston inlet. • Make sure not to let the piston interfere when assembling the caliper body to the carrier.

After installation, bleed the brake system.

(Refer to Brake System - "Brake Bleeding Prcoedures")

Check the brake oil leakage and pedal operating condition.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Use a SST (09580-0U000) when installing the brake caliper assembly.

• Be careful not to tilt the piston when inserting the piston. • Do not apply excessive force when inserting the piston. • Rotate the piston slowly to prevet damage to the piston boot.

After installation, bleed the brake system.

(Refer to Brake System - "Brake Bleeding Prcoedures")

Apply the parking brake several times and check for normal operation.

With EPB : After installing the rear caliper, perform “Brake Pad Replacement Mode” using the KDS. (Refer to Parking Brake System - "Electronic Parking Brake (EPB)") Without EPB : After disassembling/assembling the caliper body or replacing the brake caliper, parking brake cable or brake disc, re-adjust the parking brake. (Refer to Parking Brake System - "Parking Brake Cable")

Check the spilled brake oil.

Apply the parking brake several times and check for normal operation.

Check the pad wear. Measure the pad thickness and replace it, if it is less than the specified value.

Check that grease is applied to sliding contact points and check the pad and backing metal for damage.
