| Inspection |
| 1. |
MDPS power pack assembly failure can be quickly diagnosed using the vehicle diagnostic system (KDS).
|
| Replacement |
| 1. |
Remove the MDPS assembly. (Refer to Motor Driven Power Steering - "MDPS Column & Housing") |
| 2. |
Disconnect the MDPS System connector (A).
|
| 3. |
Remove the MDPS System (A) after loosening the mounting bolts.
|
| Installation |
|
| 1. |
Install in the reverse order of removal. |
| 2. |
Perform the "EPS Type Recognition" by KDS. (Refer to MDPS System - "Diagnosis with KDS") |
| 3. |
Perform the "SAS Calibration" by KDS. (Refer to MDPS System - "Diagnosis with KDS") |
| 4. |
Check and erase the DTC.
|
| 5. |
Perform the MDPS performance test. (Refer to Motor Driven Power Steering - "Troubleshooting") |
| Diagnosis with KDS |
[EPS Type Recognition]
| 1. |
Since MDPS can store various tuning maps with different steering feelings in the ECU and different steering feelings depending on the application area and the vehicle engine type, it is necessary to set codes appropriate for the application area and the vehicle.
|
[EPS Type Recognition procedures]
|
| 1. |
Connect the self-diagnosis connector (16 pins) located in the lower of driver side crash pad to KDS. |
| 2. |
Turn the self-diagnosis device after ignition is ON. |
| 3. |
Align the steering wheel to straight ahead position. |
| 4. |
After Selecting the "vehicle model" and "system", select the "EPS Type Recognition" on diagnostic tool vehicle selection screen.
|
| 5. |
Remove the DTC. |
| 6. |
Turn off the ignition and wait for 20 seconds or more before starting the engine. And then make sure that MDPS works properly. |
[SAS Calibration]
| – |
Steering-angle sensor is a built in function in MDPS torque angle sensor (TAS) to detect the steering angle and steering angle speed of the driver. Steering angle and steering angle speed are used for damping control and restoring control in addition to the basic steering force. |
Steering angle initializing (ASP calibration) is necessary for;

[SAS Calibration procedures]
|
| 1. |
Connect the self-diagnosis connector (16 pins) located in the lower of driver side crash pad to KDS. |
| 2. |
Turn the self-diagnosis device after ignition is ON. |
| 3. |
Align the steering wheel to straight ahead position. |
| 4. |
After Selecting the "vehicle model" and "system", select the "SAS Calibration" on diagnostic tool vehicle selection screen.
|
| 5. |
Remove the DTC. |
| 6. |
Turn off the ignition and wait for 20 seconds or more before starting the engine. And then make sure that MDPS works properly. |
Description and operation Description The Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) system uses an electric motor to assist the steering force and it is an engine operation independent steering system.
Repair procedures Removal 1. Align the steering wheel so that the front wheels to facing straight ahead. If the steering wheel and the front tires does not synchronize to their centers together, open circuit on the clock spring cable may occur due to change the steering wheel turning.
